Abstract

According to an article in the Africa Research Bulletin, security forces in Tunisia killed three "terrorists" during a counterterrorism operation near the city of Kasserine. The forces seized explosives, weapons, and munitions during the operation. Tunisia has experienced attacks by jihadists in recent years, resulting in the deaths of soldiers, police officers, civilians, and foreign tourists. Additionally, migrants and refugees passing through Tunisia are facing "daily institutional violence," including arbitrary arrests, forced displacements, and expulsions towards the borders with Libya and Algeria. The World Organisation Against Torture has raised concerns about the inhumane living conditions and potential torture and ill-treatment suffered by migrants and refugees in Tunisia. President Kais Saied recently pardoned hundreds of detainees on the anniversary of the 2011 revolution. [Extracted from the article]
