Abstract

The article reviews a selection of contemporary European folk and related music albums, highlighting their distinctive approaches and cultural contexts. Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings revisit parlour ballads with a focus on quality and emotional depth, while Bridget & Kitty contribute traditional unaccompanied folk songs on a cassette EP series. The live album by Heilung presents an intense, authentic interpretation of Viking mythology through ritualistic performance. Collaborations such as Kanaan & Ævestaden blend psychedelic rock with folktronica, and Dario Muci offers original compositions addressing social and environmental issues in southern Italy, sung in multiple local dialects. Each review emphasizes the artists’ musical craftsmanship and cultural significance within their genres.
