Abstract
This article explores the parallels between Chinese and Australian colonial and post-colonial history, emphasizing the lasting impact on contemporary societies. The author, a descendant of convicts in Australia, shares their personal experiences and discusses the influence of European refugees and the Budapest School on Australian society. The article focuses on philosopher Agnes Heller and her analysis of totalitarianism, the public sphere, and the tension between the scientific and the transcendental.
