Abstract
The article recognizes the contributions of Doctor Yellapragada SubbaRow of India to the widespread use of low-dose methotrexate (MTX) in the treatment of rheumatic diseases in adults and children. It discusses his role in the development of aminopterin, a folic acid antagonist aimed at treating leukaemia in children, led by Sydney Farber at Boston Children's Hospital. It describes how he replaced the compound and renamed it as MTX to lessen the toxicity of aminopterin.
