Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from Shanghai University of Sport explores the concept of "momentum" in basketball games and its influence on game outcomes. The study identifies momentum as positive or negative changes in cognition, physiology, emotions, and behavior caused by sudden or continuous events. The researchers developed a quantitative framework to accurately identify momentum occurrences in basketball games and found that winning teams had a significantly higher number of momentum occurrences compared to losing teams. The study also highlights the importance of first-quarter momentum in games where weaker teams defeat stronger teams. The findings provide insights for basketball coaches in formulating game strategies and offer inspiration for future research on momentum. [Extracted from the article]
