Abstract

The article focuses on recent laboratory studies examining factors influencing the generalization of prior learning in humans, including contiguity, contingency, and affective valence of stimuli and outcomes. Inspired by Pavlov's work on trace conditioning, the research found that generalization can occur across different emotional valences and is affected by the similarity between trained and tested safety signals, which in turn influences avoidance behavior. The authors conclude that generalization is a complex phenomenon requiring further investigation to better integrate it into existing theoretical frameworks. This summary is based on a preprint that has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
