Abstract

The article focuses on medieval city of Beçin in southwestern Turkey, revealing its rich history dating back to at least the fourth century B.C. Topics include the continuous occupation of the site during the Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods, its transformation into the capital of the Menteşe principality in the 13th century, and recent excavations unearthing significant artifacts such as a 5,000-year-old stargazer idol head and a gold coin from the Persian ruler Darius I.
