Abstract
This article addresses the challenges immigrant college students face in navigating career development within U.S. higher education and proposes a conceptual framework to improve support at college career centers. It integrates the Critical Theory of Love (CToL), which emphasizes compassion and healing in educational practices, with the Funds of Knowledge (FoK) approach that values students’ cultural backgrounds and lived experiences as assets. Four guiding principles are outlined: redefining career center spaces to foster inclusion, empowering institutional agents to leverage immigrant students’ identities, enhancing professional development for career center staff, and employing collaborative/participatory practices that actively involve immigrant students in shaping services. This framework aims to create culturally responsive, asset-based career services that better address the diverse needs and statuses of immigrant students, ultimately supporting their career exploration and success.
