Abstract

This article presents a scoping review of 102 empirical studies on postsecondary education programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) students, published between 1988 and 2023 across multiple countries, predominantly the United States. The review identifies nine main research themes, with supportive services being the most frequently studied and distance education the least. It highlights common limitations in the literature, including non-inclusive research practices, limited participant diversity, and methodological weaknesses, as well as underrepresented topics such as tutoring, counseling, and postsecondary transition services. The authors emphasize the need for future research employing diverse and rigorous methodologies, greater inclusion of DHH individuals in research, and more detailed participant information to better inform evidence-based practices and improve higher education experiences for DHH students.
