Abstract

A recent study from the National Institute of Technology in Japan explores Descartes's use of the concepts of experientia and conscientia in his metaphysics, particularly in relation to consciousness and experience. The research suggests that Descartes used these terms in a unique way, possibly hinting at an early understanding of consciousness in a psychological sense. The study concludes that experientia may be closer to our modern concept of consciousness, while conscientia relates more to internal testimony of mental states. This peer-reviewed research offers new insights into Descartes's philosophical ideas. [Extracted from the article]
