Abstract

German police have detained a German national suspected of espionage for China, bringing the total number of alleged Chinese spies arrested in Europe in recent days to six. These arrests come shortly after Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Beijing, which aimed to improve relations between Germany and China. The arrests complicate the efforts to reset ties between the two countries amid ongoing trade investigations and cybersecurity breaches. In the UK, two men have also been charged under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly spying for China. China has denied these allegations and has implemented its own counter-espionage law to crack down on spying. [Extracted from the article]
