Abstract
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has called for local elections in the Serb-populated north of Kosovo in an effort to ease ethnic tensions in the region. Vucic emphasized the need for a solution that would be satisfactory for Serbs and expressed his country's refusal to formally recognize Kosovo's independence. The northern region of Kosovo is home to the largest remaining Serb community, and tensions have escalated due to alleged discrimination and crackdowns on Serbia-funded institutions by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. Vucic also demanded the return of Serbs to Kosovo's police force and judiciary, as well as the implementation of an EU-brokered deal for Serb autonomy. [Extracted from the article]
