Abstract
The article examines the multifaceted connections between music and visual art, focusing on Western instrumental music and two-dimensional European and American art from the 19th and 20th centuries. It highlights how composers like Modest Mussorgsky and Dave Brubeck drew direct inspiration from artworks, while artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee incorporated musical concepts and experiences into their paintings. The discussion also includes examples of art explicitly translating musical scores, as seen in Ellen Banks’s work. This exploration aims to enrich understanding and appreciation of both art forms and suggests their combined study can enhance creativity and cognitive skills.
