Abstract

This article focuses on the preparation of dictionary material for compiling an English–Slovene dictionary of criminal justice and security collocations. It details the process undertaken by second-year students at the University of Maribor's Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, including corpus selection, manual collocation extraction using Sketch Engine software, and translation into Slovene. The article discusses the theoretical background of language for specific purposes (LSP), the role and definition of collocations, and the current state of Slovene terminological dictionaries, highlighting the need for a specialized collocation dictionary in this field. Examples of collocation entries and challenges in distinguishing bases and collocates, as well as translation issues, are presented to illustrate the dictionary compilation process. The work contributes a substantial corpus of over 18,000 collocations annually, intended to support the development of specialized terminology and lexicographic resources in Slovene criminal justice and security contexts.
