Abstract

The article reviews recent classical piano concerto recordings, focusing on interpretations by notable pianists and orchestras. Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi’s recording of Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Manfred Honeck is praised for its detailed adherence to the score and expressive dynamics. Clare Hammond’s performances of 20th-century English piano concertos by Britten, Tippett, and Walton with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under George Vass are highlighted for their ensemble interplay and technical mastery. Nelson Goerner’s recording of Ravel’s two piano concertos with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under Kazuki Yamada is commended for its vivid execution and nuanced touch. Finally, Peter Jablonski’s advocacy of André Tchaikowsky’s piano concertos and sonata with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra under Łukasz Borowicz is noted as a definitive and technically accomplished interpretation of the composer’s challenging works.
