Abstract

This article focuses on a new recording of Jean-Baptiste Lully's 1676 tragédie en musique, *Atys*, conducted by Alexis Kossenko with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles. The recording incorporates recent musicological research, including a newly identified contemporary manuscript and reconstructed period instruments, and reflects historical performance practices such as the spatial arrangement of musicians and restrained vocal ornamentation. The cast features prominent singers like Mathias Vidal and Véronique Gens, emphasizing dramatic coherence and textual clarity over orchestral excess. While minor criticisms are noted, such as occasional harpsichord ornamentation and percussion choices, the release is recommended alongside earlier notable recordings by William Christie and Christophe Rousset for serious collectors and researchers of Lully’s works.
