Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Giovanni Boccaccio's classic novel The Decameron experienced a surge in popularity as readers sought insight into surviving a global catastrophe. Kathleen Jordan, the creator of Netflix's adaptation of The Decameron, offers a different interpretation of the book's timeless message. Jordan's black comedy explores the idea that the privileged will always abandon their less fortunate neighbors during a plague, whether in 14th century Florence or modern-day Manhattan. While the series deviates from the original stories, it captures the spirit of Boccaccio's work and challenges traditional interpretations. [Extracted from the article]
