Abstract
This article focuses on the pioneering contributions of Millicent Garrett Fawcett and Eleanor Florence Rathbone, the fifth and ninth women elected to the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), to women's rights and social reform in Britain. Both women combined statistical analysis with activism to advance women's suffrage, education, and labor issues, emphasizing the importance of accurate data on women’s social and economic conditions. Millicent led the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS) until 1919, promoting peaceful reform and broader educational opportunities for women, while Eleanor succeeded her as president and championed family allowances and social welfare policies informed by empirical research. Their work was recognized by contemporaries in economics and statistics and contributed to landmark legislation such as women's enfranchisement and the Family Allowances Act.
