Abstract

The article focuses on *Horizon: An American Saga, Chapter 1*, a Western film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Kevin Costner, who envisions it as a multi-chapter epic exploring American frontier history. Set in 1859 Arizona, the film intertwines storylines involving settlers, Native Americans—particularly the Apache—and diverse communities including African Americans, Irish, Germans, and Chinese laborers, portraying the complexities and conflicts of westward expansion with attention to historical detail and cultural sensitivity. Despite its ambitious scope and careful production, the film received disappointing theater attendance, possibly due to its length and challenging subject matter, with future chapters planned for limited release and television serialization. The narrative highlights the harsh realities of frontier life, including violence and cultural clashes, without romanticizing the period.
