Abstract

This article examines the perspectives of Arab social workers in Israel regarding the Palestinian–Israeli conflict, focusing on the violent civil dispute of April–May 2021. Through qualitative interviews with fifteen experienced Arab social workers employed mainly by local government welfare bureaus, the study reveals their desire to take a leadership role in addressing the conflict while feeling excluded by both political authorities and employers. These social workers experience tensions between their professional values, personal identities, community expectations, and employer demands, highlighting a need for safe spaces in the workplace to express their narratives and reconcile these conflicts. The study suggests incorporating dual narratives into social work training and calls for greater inclusion of Arab social workers in conflict resolution efforts to enhance their professional status and address the emotional scars stemming from the conflict.
