Abstract
Torrential rainfall in Australia's far north has caused major flooding in a key tourism area. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued flood and wind warnings in several areas of Queensland, with river levels reaching over 10 meters high in some places. The city of Cairns, a major tourist destination and gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, has been severely affected, with the airport closed and some aircraft underwater. Emergency services are working to evacuate stranded residents, and the flooding is expected to have a significant economic impact on the state. [Extracted from the article]
