Abstract

The article focuses on the planned deployment of U.S. conventionally armed ground-launched intermediate-range missiles in Germany on a rotational basis starting in 2026, including the Standard Missile-6 (SM-6), Tomahawk cruise missile, and the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW). This deployment follows the U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in 2019 and has prompted Russia to announce mirror measures and reconsider its nuclear policies. The article also notes Germany's internal political debate over the deployment and NATO's broader efforts to modernize nuclear capabilities in Europe. Additionally, the U.S. has approved its first sale of unmanned aerial vehicles and attack drones to Taiwan, marking a shift toward providing advanced, AI-enabled loitering munitions for ground forces.
