Abstract

The article focuses on the life and impact of George Washington Carver, an African American inventor, researcher, and educator born around 1865-1866 to formerly enslaved parents. Despite early hardships including kidnapping, illness, and racial discrimination, Carver pursued education and became the first Black student and later faculty member at Iowa State University. He joined Tuskegee Institute in 1896, where he directed the Agricultural Experiment Station and developed hundreds of products from peanuts, sweet potatoes, and other crops to aid impoverished farmers in the South. Carver's work extended beyond agriculture to include innovations in dyes, paints, and medicines, and he actively promoted crop rotation and soil conservation. His legacy includes the establishment of the George Washington Carver Foundation and National Monument, reflecting his enduring influence on science, agriculture, and African American history.
