Abstract
The article focuses on Senator Angus King's comparison of the historic threat faced by American colonists during Paul Revere's midnight ride 250 years ago to the contemporary challenges confronting the U.S. Constitution and democratic norms. King argues that the current administration is undermining the separation of powers by accumulating unchecked executive authority, which threatens the foundational system of checks and balances designed to protect liberty. He emphasizes that this issue transcends partisan politics and calls on the judiciary, Congress, and especially the American people to actively defend constitutional principles. The article underscores the importance of civic engagement to preserve democracy in the face of what King describes as an unprecedented constitutional crisis.
