Abstract
The article focuses on the historical rivalry between North Korea (DPRK) and South Korea (ROK) regarding their respective weapons programs, particularly during the Cold War era. It highlights the complexities of their relationships with their Cold War allies, particularly the United States, which had reservations about South Korea's missile ambitions. The DPRK, under Kim Il Sung, sought to advance its missile capabilities through alliances with countries like Egypt and Iran, ultimately leading to the development of SCUD missiles and their variants. The article also discusses the evolution of North Korea's missile program under Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un, culminating in the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching North America.
