Abstract
This essay describes a Thoreau-inspired research collaboration between a professor and a student; reports the findings of their summer-long inquiry into connections between antislavery thought and discoveries in geohistory (particularly regarding species extinction and the age of the earth); and explains how this project both grew out of the authors' classroom engagement with Walden and in turn deepened their understanding of it.
