Abstract
This article focuses on a study examining how football penalty takers anticipate goalkeeper movements under temporal constraints and the role of expertise in this process. The study involved 253 participants, including 130 experts and 123 novices, who viewed penalty kick videos occluded at different times before ball contact and predicted the goalkeeper’s dive direction. Results showed that anticipation accuracy decreased as occlusion occurred earlier, but remained above chance, with experts—particularly those actively playing football—performing better than novices. The findings highlight differences between active and passive football experience in shaping anticipatory skills. This research has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
