Abstract
The article focuses on Private Daniel R. Edwards, a U.S. soldier in World War I who received the Medal of Honor and Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary bravery during battles at Cantigny and Soissons, despite severe wounds. After his medical discharge, Edwards became known for recounting numerous adventurous and often unverifiable stories about his life, including claims of service in various international conflicts and associations with notable figures, many of which lack official documentation. Following his military service, he worked with a disabled veterans’ organization in New York and later lived in Arkansas as a fishing guide until his death in 1967. Edwards’ verified legacy centers on his valor in combat, while much of his post-war narrative remains unsubstantiated. [Extracted from the article]
