Abstract

The article in AARP: The Magazine recounts the journey of Ed Dwight, a former NASA recruit who faced racism and discrimination during his time in the NASA training program in the 1960s. Despite not being selected as an astronaut, Dwight went on to have a successful career as a sculptor specializing in figures from African American history. At the age of 90, with sponsorships from Blue Origin and other organizations, Dwight finally fulfilled his dream of going to space on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket. Reflecting on his experience, Dwight found the view of Earth from space to be a spiritual and awe-inspiring moment, emphasizing the importance of taking care of our planet.
