Abstract

During the Cold War, Berlin was a focal point of tension between the Western Allies and the Soviets. The city was divided into occupation zones, with the Western Allies maintaining a garrison in West Berlin to defend against potential Soviet invasion. The Berlin Brigade, consisting of American, British, and French troops, trained extensively for urban combat scenarios and had plans in place to delay enemy forces in the event of an attack. Despite the formidable opposition they faced, the Western Allies were confident in their ability to defend West Berlin, although it was acknowledged that the city could only be held for about a week to ten days in a conflict scenario.
