Abstract
The article focuses on the coverage of the first Women's Rugby World Cup held in 1991, which was won by the USA in front of about 2,000 spectators at Cardiff Arms Park. Despite limited media attention and financial challenges, including a £15,000 debt, the tournament marked a significant milestone in women's rugby, with organizers and participants optimistic about its future. The article also contrasts this event with the more widely covered Men's Rugby World Cup the same year and highlights other rugby achievements in 1991, such as Bath's league victory and the Worthington National Sevens tournament. Additionally, it notes the launch of the first website by English computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, related to the World Wide Web he invented.
