Abstract
This article focuses on the dCS Varese CD/SACD Transport, a high-end digital disc transport designed exclusively for use with the dCS Varese Music System. Manufactured by dCS (Data Conversion Systems) Ltd. in the UK, the Varese Transport features a front-loading dual-laser mechanism, a single ACTUS output port, and advanced mechanical and clocking designs aimed at minimizing jitter and noise for superior audio fidelity. Unlike previous dCS transports, it outputs data asynchronously to the Varese Core, enabling native-resolution playback without upsampling within the transport itself. The reviewer highlights the transport’s exceptional ability to reveal subtle dynamic contrasts and emotional nuances in well-recorded CDs and SACDs, suggesting it elevates silver disc playback to a new standard of digital audio reproduction.
