Abstract

The article focuses on Israel’s military campaign against the militant group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, during which Israel plans to establish a security zone up to the Litani River and prevent over 600,000 displaced residents from returning to their homes. Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that homes in border villages will be destroyed to ensure the safety of northern Israeli residents. The conflict escalated after Hezbollah, backed by Iran, launched rocket and drone attacks in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ending a ceasefire that had been in place since late 2024. Despite efforts by Lebanon’s government to demilitarize southern Lebanon and restrict Hezbollah, the group continues coordinated attacks against Israel, resulting in significant casualties and displacement on both sides.
