Abstract
The article focuses on the declaration of a state of disaster in Victoria, Australia, due to severe wildfires affecting the region. Premier Jacinta Allan announced the declaration, which encompasses 18 local government areas and an alpine resort, as approximately 300,000 hectares of land have burned and at least 130 structures have been destroyed. The state of disaster grants the government emergency powers to protect lives, including the ability to requisition property and enforce evacuations. Concurrently, northern Queensland is preparing for a tropical cyclone, with warnings for damaging winds and potential flooding in already saturated areas. [Extracted from the article]
