Abstract

The article reviews *Screen Towers: The Drive-In Theater in America*, a photography book by Steve Fitch that documents the architectural and cultural significance of American drive-in movie theaters from the late 1970s through the early 2000s. Fitch's large-format photographs capture the iconic neon-lit screen towers and murals that served as both movie screens and local landmarks, highlighting their decline from peak popularity in the early 1970s to near obsolescence. The book presents mostly visual content with minimal text, emphasizing the aesthetic and nostalgic value of these structures as symbols of mid-20th-century Americana. It also notes Fitch's background as a neon tube bender, which informed his sensitive portrayal of neon signage in his work.
