Abstract

The article discusses research on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) among aging combat veterans, specifically focusing on how past and current war-related stressors influence their long-term PTSD symptoms and views of aging (VoA). The study involved 239 veterans from the 1973 Yom Kippur War, who participated in a longitudinal survey before and during the Israel-Hamas War. Findings indicate that higher PTSD symptoms from the Yom Kippur War predicted increased PTSD symptoms during the current conflict, while VoA measures influenced PTSD symptoms over time. The research suggests that current war trauma may uniquely affect older veterans' mental health and perceptions of aging. [Extracted from the article]
