Abstract
The article focuses on "The South Australian Frontier and its Legacies" project, an Australian Research Council (ARC) initiative based at the University of Adelaide that documents and educates about the complex and varied experiences of Aboriginal peoples during British colonisation in South Australia. Unlike other projects that narrowly define frontier violence as massacres, this project adopts a broader definition including various forms of violence and dispossession, supported by extensive archival research and Aboriginal oral histories. The project’s interactive website and Story Map provide accessible primary sources, contextual essays, and learning resources designed for educators and the public to deepen understanding of colonial-era cross-cultural relations and their ongoing legacies. It emphasizes the diversity of Aboriginal experiences, the dynamic nature of early contact, and the importance of truth-telling in Australian history education. [Extracted from the article]
