Abstract
Marie Curie, the renowned physicist and chemist, visited the National Academy of Sciences Building in 1929. President Herbert Hoover presented her with a gift of $50,000 to purchase a gram of radium for her oncology institute in Poland. Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first person to win it twice in two scientific fields, made significant contributions to the development of nuclear energy and radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Unfortunately, she died from leukemia, likely due to her prolonged exposure to radiation. Despite the tragic irony of her life, Curie's dedication to science continues to inspire generations.
