Abstract

The article focuses on the historical significance and archaeological features of the abandoned city of Kassope, located in Epirus, northwestern Greece. Founded in the 4th century BC by the Kassopians, the city thrived until its destruction by the Romans in 167 BC, followed by a period of reconstruction. Key structures include a small theatre, an agora, and the well-preserved Katagogion, which may have served as a guesthouse or shopping complex. The city's decline began after the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, leading to its abandonment. Excavations have revealed much of Kassope, making it a site of interest for visitors today.
