Abstract

The article focuses on the relationship and the literary meeting between Irish playwright, poet and author Oscar Wilde and American poet Walt Whitman in Camden, New Jersey on January 18, 1882. Topics discussed include male-male friendship and comradeship in Whitman's poems in the collection "Leaves of Grass," Whitman's perception of Wilde as a literary face of Victorian aestheticism and reasons why Wilde was drawn to Whitman's poetry.
