Abstract

This article from Baseball Digest features letters from fans asking various questions about baseball history and statistics. One fan asks about pitchers who have made postseason starts for multiple teams, and it is revealed that Max Scherzer and David Wells are the only pitchers to have done so for five different teams. Another fan inquires about players who have hit safely in every World Series game they played, and it is determined that Roberto Clemente holds the record with 14 consecutive games. A fan also asks about instances where a player has hit a lead-changing home run in the ninth inning or later of a postseason game, and it is revealed that there have been nine such instances since 1985. Finally, a fan expresses their perspective on expanded postseason play and how it has changed the importance of regular season records and affected the significance of World Series achievements. The article concludes with a fan asking if it has ever happened before that both defending league champions were eliminated in Game 7 of their respective League Championship Series, and it is determined that it had never occurred before.
