Abstract
The article focuses on the Pulitzer Prizes' recent decision to expand eligibility in the books, drama, and music categories to include U.S. permanent residents and others who have made the United States their longtime primary home, not just U.S. citizens. This change follows years of advocacy by undocumented and noncitizen writers, including public campaigns led by novelist Ingrid Rojas Contreras and poet Javier Zamora, co-founder of Undocupoets. The decision was influenced by activism, jury members' concerns about fairness, and petitions highlighting the exclusion of noncitizen authors. The expansion aims to recognize a broader definition of American literature and provide greater opportunities for migrant writers.
