Abstract
This article examines nineteenth-century working-class literature and culture through the dual concepts of the "long nineteenth century" and "Vast Early America," emphasizing the interconnectedness of local and global industrial histories, particularly within transatlantic networks. It highlights the transformative impact of digitized archives and social media on labor studies, facilitating broader access to primary sources and scholarly collaboration. The article underscores the importance of understanding multiple industries in tandem, the embedded histories of slavery in industrial growth, and the ongoing relevance of labor history amid contemporary worker struggles such as the 2021 "Striketober" strikes and the "Great Resignation." It advocates for a comprehensive, culturally sensitive approach to labor history that integrates local experiences with global economic and social dynamics.
