Abstract
The article focuses on the completion of the Lumsden Heritage Trust’s project to restore and install the 1880 D class locomotive D6 at the Lumsden railway precinct. Restored over three years by Bulleid Engineering after being gifted by the Otago Railway and Locomotive Society, the D6 now leads a collection of pre-1900 rolling stock, including carriages dating from 1877 to 1896. The relocation involved coordinated efforts from multiple local businesses and required structural modifications to the housing shed. The Trust’s restoration work has received national recognition, including awards for carriage restoration and innovative recovery of historic locomotives.
