Abstract
The article examines the challenges faced by senior female scientists in STEM fields, particularly regarding their access to awards and recognition compared to their male counterparts. Despite significant contributions to science, women often encounter barriers that hinder their advancement and retention in academic positions, leading to a "leaky pipeline" effect where they leave the field at higher rates. The author argues that current award structures, which predominantly focus on early career recognition, fail to support women as they progress in their careers, thereby perpetuating gender disparities in senior roles. The article suggests that expanding award opportunities for senior female scientists could enhance retention and address institutional biases, ultimately fostering a more equitable environment in STEM.
