Abstract

The article discusses a major exhibition at the Musée du Louvre that redefines the French artist Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) beyond his traditional classification as a Neoclassicist, highlighting his realism and idealism. The exhibition, which marks the 200th anniversary of David's death, features over 100 works, including significant loans from various institutions, and aims to reshape the perception of David's artistic legacy. Curators Sébastien Allard and Côme Fabre present a well-organized display that showcases David's mastery across genres, while also addressing the complexities of his biography and the evolution of his style throughout his career. The exhibition runs until January 26. [Extracted from the article]
