Abstract

Andrew Mackillop's I Human Capital and Empire i begins with significant praise from John M. MacKenzie, the founding editor of the "Studies in Imperialism" series of which this forms a part, and whose contributions to the scholarship of imperialism are well known. Conceptualising Irish, Scottish and Welsh migration to and from Asia as an alternate form of investment, Mackillop is able to demonstrate the value of these "peripheral" countries to the British imperial project in Asia.
