Abstract
The article focuses on Gabriele Tadino, a skilled 16th-century military engineer who played a key role in the defense of Rhodes during the 1522 Ottoman siege led by Suleiman the Magnificent. Despite risking his career by aiding the Knights of St John against Venice’s peace treaty with the Ottomans, Tadino applied innovative techniques in fortification repair and early detection of enemy mining efforts. Although his efforts delayed the Ottoman conquest, the overwhelming strength of Suleiman’s forces ultimately led to the fall of Rhodes. Tadino later continued his military engineering career under Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. [Extracted from the article]
