Abstract

This article focuses on research from the University of Auckland examining the integration of digital health education within mental health training programs in New Zealand. The study surveyed 118 mental health clinicians and trainees, revealing that 75% had not received formal digital health training despite 83% expressing strong interest in further education. Interviews highlighted barriers such as time constraints, limited institutional leadership, and curriculum overload, while also noting optimism about future integration of digital mental health tools in psychology and psychiatry programs. The findings underscore a significant gap between the demand for digital health competencies and the current educational offerings for mental health professionals in New Zealand.
