Abstract
Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, a French nobleman, played a significant role in the American Revolution as a general in George Washington's army. Lafayette's commission in the Continental Army was largely ceremonial, but he distinguished himself as a brave and intuitive leader. After the war, Lafayette returned to France and became involved in the French Revolution. In 1824, he was invited back to the United States for a nationwide tour, during which he visited Connecticut. Lafayette's visit was highly documented, and he was celebrated as a hero of both France and America. [Extracted from the article]
